CCHL: RBC CUP REPORT

Carleton Place Canadians 4 Soo Thunderbirds 0

In the battle between the two lone Ontario clubs, the Carleton Place Canadians continued their hot play knocking off the Soo Thunderbirds 4-0.

Jordan Larson (2g, 1a) and Andy Sturtz (1g, 2a) led the way offensively for the Canadians while Wesley Baker also found the net.  Tyson Stewart notched 2 assists, including a perfect seeing eye feed that sprung Sturtz on a break-away for the opening goal.  Guillame Therien was his old self as he played a perfect game turning aside 26 shots for his first victory and shut out of the RBC Cup tournament.

If not for the strong play by Mario Culina in the Thunderbirds net the game could have been even more one-sided as the Soo goaltender turned aside 34 of 38 shots, not having much of a chance on the ones that got by him.

The Canadians next game is Sunday May 10th at 8pm against the tournament host Portage Terriers.

The host Portage Terriers were defeated by the BCHL champion Penticton Vees in the Western Canada Cup Final but were able to find redemption by defeating the Vees in the RBC Cup Opener Saturday afternoon.
