GOJHL Preview – Feb. 12-15

Happy Friday GOJHL fans!  I hope you’ve all had a good week and those that have been buried until all the snow received in the last few days, I hope you’ve dug yourself out.

This weekend is Valentine’s Day and Family Day.  With it being a long weekend, this preview covers Friday to Monday, and there’s lots of hockey, so on to it.

Friday, February 12

Waterloo vs. Brampton, 7:30 Victoria Park

This will be the fifth game between the Siskins and Bombers.  Each team has 2 wins, with each getting 1 in overtime.

Waterloo and Brampton are separated by just 1 point, so they’re battling with each other for this spot.

Last weekend, Waterloo picked up 1 point of a possible 4.  They lost on Friday in Stratford 5-1 and on Sunday, they lost 6-5 in overtime to Guelph.

Brampton split last weekend, defeating Guelph last Friday in double overtime 4-3 and then lost on Sunday 6-2 to Elmira.

This game is 6 vs. 7.  Both teams have 7 games left.

Listowel vs. Stratford, 7:30 Allman Arena

These teams have played 4 games already.  The games are split 2-2.  This weekend, they are playing a home and home to finish off this season series.

Listowel is trying to keep up with Guelph in the standings.  They are just 1 point apart.  Stratford is 14 points behind Kitchener, who officially clinched first place on Tuesday night.

The Cyclones split last weekend with a 2-0 win over Brantford and a 3-2 loss to Kitchener.

Stratford’s only game last weekend was the 5-1 win over Waterloo.

This game is 2 vs. 4.  Both teams have 7 games left.

Lambton Shores vs. St. Thomas, 7:30 Timken Centre

This will be the fifth game between the Predators and Stars.  St. Thomas has all 4 games so far.

The Predators are trying to stay with St. Marys.  They are just 4 points out of a play-off spot.  St. Thomas has fallen into 5th place.  They are 4 points ahead of Sarnia and 4 points behind LaSalle.

Lambton Shores was supposed to host Strathroy on Tuesday, but the game was postponed due to the weather.  As far as I know, no makeup game has been scheduled, but my guess is next Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the Stars were in LaSalle and lost 4-1.

This game is 5 vs. 9.  Both teams have 7 games left.

Sarnia vs. St. Marys, 7:30 Pyramid Rec Centre

This is the last game between these teams.  St. Marys took the first game and Sarnia has the last 4.

Sarnia is maintaining 6th place.  They’re only 4 points behind St. Thomas, but I just don’t see them moving up into 5th.  St. Marys is trying to stay ahead of Lambton Shores for the last play-off spot.

Sarnia has been off since last Saturday with a rare Thursday night off this week.  Last Saturday they hosted Leamington, losing 4-2.

St. Marys was supposed to be in Leamington last night.  Due to the steady snow streamer we’ve received in the London area since Tuesday, that game was postponed.  Again, no makeup game scheduled, but my guess is next Sunday.

This game is 6 vs. 8.  Sarnia has 6 games left and St. Marys has 8.

Saturday, February 13

Kitchener vs. Cambridge, 7:00 Galt Arena Gardens

This is the last game between these teams.  Kitchener leads 4-1.

These teams last played on Tuesday.  With Kitchener’s 7-1 win, they officially clinched 1st place.  Theoretically, Stratford could still catch them, but due to the tie breakers, if they did, the Dutchmen would still have 1st.

Cambridge is trying to stay with Brantford for a play-off spot.  The Winter Hawks are 5 points behind the 99er’s.

This game is 1 vs. 9.  Kitchener has 6 games left where Cambridge has 5.

Brampton vs. Guelph, 7:30 Sleeman Centre

This is the last game between the Bombers and Hurricanes.  Guelph leads the series 3-2.

As pointed out, Brampton is fighting with Waterloo for their play-off spot.  After their game on Friday, they will either have a 3 point lead on the Siskins, or will be 1 point behind them.  Guelph is in a battle with Listowel.  As of Thursday night, Guelph and Listowel are 1 point apart.

Guelph was in Brantford Thursday night and dropped a 4-2 decision.

This game is 3 or 4 vs. 6 or 7.  Guelph has 5 games left and Brampton will have 6.

In the last week, London has taken 4 points from Leamington to hold strong in 2nd place.  They have a 5 point lead over Chatham.

This game is 2 vs. 9.  London has 7 games left and Lambton Shores 5.

St. Marys vs. Strathroy, 7:30 West Middlesex Memorial

This is the last game for these teams.  Strathroy leads the series 3-2.

Strathroy is holding onto 7th place.  As noted above, they were supposed to be in Lambton Shores on Tuesday, but the game was cancelled due to the weather.  Their last game was last Saturday when they hosted LaSalle.

This game is 7 vs. 8.  St. Marys has 7 games left and Strathroy has 5.

Sunday, February 14

Brantford vs. Waterloo, 1:30 Waterloo Memorial

This is the fifth game between the 99er’s and Siskins.  Each team has 2 wins.

Brantford is 5 points ahead of Cambridge and are just trying to stay ahead of them. Waterloo is trying to stay ahead of Brantford and to stay with Brampton for their play-off spot.

This game is 6 or 7 vs. 8.  Both teams will have 6 games left.

Listowel vs. Stratford, 1:30 Listowel Memorial

This is the back half of the home and home this weekend, and also the last game in this series.

This game is 2 vs. 3 or 4.  The teams will have 6 games left.

Sarnia vs. Leamington, 4:10 Highbury Canco Arena

This is the last game between Sarnia and Leamington.  Leamington has all 5 previous games.

This will be Sarnia’s second game this weekend, and Leamington’s only game.

As noted, Leamington’s game on Thursday was postponed due to the weather.  On Wednesday, the Flyers were in London and lost 5-3 to the Nationals.  It was a very good game to watch.  I wasn’t expecting all the fireworks that happened, but that’s what comes when teams play games close together.

This game will be 1 vs. 6.  Leamington has 7 games left and Sarnia has 5.

Kitchener vs. Elmira, 7:00 Dan Snyder Arena

This is the last game between the Dutchmen and Sugar Kings.  Kitchener has all 5 games.

Kitchener officially clinched 1st place with their win over Cambridge on Tuesday.  Elmira has 5th place locked up in the standings.

Last weekend, Elmira picked up all 4 points available with wins over Cambridge and Brampton.

This game is 1 vs. 5.  Kitchener has 5 games left and Elmira has 6.

LaSalle vs. Chatham, 7:00 Chatham Memorial

This is the last game between the Vipers and Maroons.  Chatham took the first 2 games and LaSalle has the last 3.

Chatham and LaSalle are fighting it out for 3rd place.  Chatham was in the hunt with London, they’re only 5 points back, but LaSalle is right on their doorstep.  These teams are separated by 1 point.

LaSalle hosted St. Thomas on Wednesday, defeating the Stars 4-1.  Chatham has been off since last Saturday when they travelled to Lambton Shores and defeated the Preds 9-7.

This game is 3 vs. 4.  Chatham has 6 games left and LaSalle has 7.

Monday, February 15

Waterloo vs. Cambridge, 2:00 Galt Arena Gardens

This is the final game between these teams.  Cambridge took the first 3 games and Waterloo has the last 2.

This will be Waterloo’s third game this weekend and Cambridge’s second.

This game will be 6 or 7 vs. 9.  Waterloo will have 5 games left and Cambridge 4.

Brampton vs. Stratford, 2:00 Allman Arena

These teams have 2 games left.  Stratford leads the series 3-1.

This is the third game for both teams this weekend.

This game is 2 vs. 6 or 7.  Both teams will have 5 games remaining.

St. Thomas vs. London, 2:30 Western Fair

This is the final game for the Stars and Nats.  The teams played twice last week.  London leads the series 3-2.

This game is 2 vs. 5.  Both teams have 6 games left.

Elmira vs. Listowel, 3:30 Listowel Memorial

This is the last game for the Sugar Kings and Cyclones.  Elmira leads the series 3-2.

This game is 3 or 4 vs. 5.  It’s a potential first round preview.  Both teams have 5 games left.

So these are your games this weekend.  With Family Day on Monday, it makes for a lot of games going on.  Depending on the weather today, I’m thinking of heading to Stratford tonight.  I think Stratford and Listowel will be good games this weekend.  Last time they had a home and home weekend, they split with the visitor winning the game.  On Saturday, I’ll be in Strathroy, but I like the looks of Brampton and Guelph.  On Sunday, Brantford and Waterloo could be a good game.  I also like Sarnia and Leamington.  For Monday, because I’ve seen their last 2 games, I’m not interested in London and St. Thomas.  It varies as to how good this game will be.  Depending on the weather, I’m thinking of going to Cambridge.

I hope everyone has a good weekend and I’ll see you again on Tuesday.
