CCHL: FRED PAGE CUP UPDATE

The Fred Page Cup is underway in Cornwall, Ontario and a couple of CCHL clubs are hoping to find success and advance to the RBC Cup in Portage la Prarie, Manitoba which begins on Saturday May 9th.

Canadians Starting Strong

The CCHL Champion Carleton Place Canadians have gotten off to a perfect start as they have picked up back-to-back victories so far in the tournament.  They got things going on Wednesday afternoon by defeating the Dieppe Commandos 3-1 in the opening game and followed that up with 4-2 victory this afternoon against the Quebec League champion from Longueuil.

The Commandos, who advanced to the RBC Cup after being crowned Maritime Hockey League champions gave the Canadians all they could handle.  Goaltender Guillaume Therien would be a brick wall however as he stopped 31 of 32 shots while Vinny Post, Adam Lloyd, and Stephen Baylis had the goals as the Canadians got by a very tough opponent.

In another close game, the Canadians were able to escape with another win.  Captain Stephen Baylis scored twice in the 3rd period to put things away and seal the victory.  Alex Robinson and Adam Lloyd also scored as they had 1st period markers while Therien stopped 27 shots for the win.  Danick Poirier had both the goals for Longueuil.

Colts Look To Get On Track

The RBC Host Cornwall Colts will look to get into the win column tonight as they square off against the Dieppe Commandos.  The Colts, who were on the sidelines waiting for the tournament to start after being eliminated by the Carleton Place Canadians in the CCHL Semi Finals back on April 5th were a little rusty as they fell 5-2 to Longueuil on Wednesday night.  Now with a game under their belt, the Colts will look to play a strong game against the Commandos.
