I had decided in the summer that I wanted to do a ranking system for the teams. Everybody talks about this team being the number 1 ranked team, or how this is the hottest team, and thought, lets actually see if it’s true.
So first off, thank you to St. Catharines Falcons statistician Sean Burrows on helping me come up with the ranking system. It is completely mathematical, so you can’t come back on me and say that I’ve ranked a certain team higher/lower based on my personal feelings towards them.
I had originally wanted to do this weekly, but it takes a lot of time to put the data together, so I’m going to do it monthly.
So after the month of September, here’s how everyone ranks.

This is how the rankings were done. I ranked the teams 1-26 in 5 different categories: Goals for, goals against, win percentage, powerplay percentage and penalty kill percentage. For each category position, they received 1 point. As you can see, Caledonia and Leamington are at the top. These are their numbers:
Caledonia = 45 Goals for, 1 rank, 14 goals against, 3 rank, 1.000 win %, 1 rank, 28.89 PP%, 2 rank, and 88.46 PK%, 8 rank. 1+3+1+2+8 = 15
Leamington = 33 goals for, 3 rank, 16 goals against, 4 rank, 0.857 win %, 4 rank, 29.41 PP%, 1 rank, 94.12 PK%, 3 rank. 3+4+4+1+3 = 15

So after one month of play, here are the standings, top 20 scorers, and top 11 goaltenders. It’s 11 because Paolo Battisti from LaSalle is tied for 10th.
