EOJHL PROSPECT WATCH: CHARLIE JENSEN

17-year-old Charlie Jensen has had himself a pretty strong rookie season with the Ottawa West Golden Knights of the EOJHL.  As history has shown, teams usually go with more experienced goalies between the pipes but Jensen’s play earned him the starting nod, making him one of just a few to earn the responsibility at a young age.  Not only did he win the starting role with the Golden Knights, he was able to be consistent enough with his play to not let it slip away.  The 6-2, 190 lb Kanata, Ontario native finds himself starting for the #1 ranked club in the EOJHL’s Metro Division and helping them as they are currently squaring off against the Gatineau Mustangs for the Metro Division Title.

Minor Hockey

Jensen spent his Minor Hockey as a product of the Ottawa Jr. Senators AAA Program where he won both Minor Midget and Midget Ontario-East AAA Championships.  During the 2012-13 season he split duties with Belleville Bulls goaltender Connor Hicks and finished with an overall record of 10-4-6 with 2 shutouts as he helped contribute to the clubs OEMMHL Title.  He would then spend his 16-year-old season at the Midget level where he was given a larger role and went 18-4-1 enroute to the OEMHL Championship.

EOJHL Career

In just his first season of Junior hockey Jensen has been a rock between the pipes for the Golden Knights.  Although there still needs to be work with consistency, like there is for every young goaltender, when he is on his game he is very hard to beat.  Jensen finished the regular season with a 16-13-0 record, sporting a 3.32 GAA and .890 SV%.  The numbers may not jump out at you but when you take into consideration the majority of the shooters he faces are 2-3 years older than him you have to like the potential of what he will become.  He finished with the 2nd most games played in the Conference with 32 and the 4th best GAA for goaltenders who started more than 20 games.  He is currently 5-1 in 6 playoff starts with a 2.33 GAA, .926 SV%, and 2 shutouts, clearly saving his best play for the postseason.

CCHL Rights

Jensen is a 4th round draft selection of the Kemptville 73’s where he was taken in the 2012 CCHL Draft.  His play in Junior B has been noticed, with a continued strong postseason and hard work over the summer, he will have a great opportunity to make the jump to the next level for the 2015-16 season.
